Bio
Sofie Hodara is a Boston-based multimedia artist, designer, and educator. Often working collaboratively, she explores the intersection between traditional and cutting-edge media in order to create beautiful, non-utilitarian experiences with technology.
Her work has been exhibited across the country including Icebox Project Space in Philadelphia PA, UC San Diego’s Calit2 Theater, and Boston Cyberarts Gallery, and is in permanent collections at Tutt Library’s Special Collections and Archives at Colorado College, and the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of Pennsylvania. She was an artist-in-residence at GROUNDWORK Retreat (Winter 2014), the Common Press at the University of Pennsylvania (Summer 2016), and boxoPROJECTS in Joshua Tree, CA (Summer 2017). Hodara was a member artist at Bromfield Gallery (Boston, MA) from 2016 – 2019 and is co-founder of the International Institute of Contemporary Art and Theory, an artist-in-residence program based in Mangalia, Romania.
Her work has been featured in Fresh Paint Magazine (May 2016), Made in Mind Magazine (Fall 2015), the Journal of the New Media Caucus (V.11 N.02), and the Boston Globe (October 2018). In January 2019 she spoke at the AR in Action Leadership Summit at the MIT Media Lab, and in April 2019 she spoke at Interventions by Design at Northeastern.
She is currently working a workshop for Typographics 2019 at Cooper Union.
Hodara teaches design at Emmanuel College, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and Tufts University.
