thesis abstract
My thesis explores different methods of creating emotional tension using dynamic media. Tension is a common technique used in narrative forms including literature, cinema and games. I focus on creating emotional journeys which increase and release fear, anxiety and suspense.
My research focus upon influences and techniques from cinema, installation art and video games and how to use tension for engaging experiences for audiences, users and players.
My case studies are experimental approaches for creating emotional tension through motion, sound, images, time, and interaction in both digital and tangible formats.
